Sony World Photography Awards 2016: Salt Cleansing by Owee

Sony World Photography Awards has released its shortlisted entries for the 2016 professional, open, and youth competitions. Chaired by Dominique Green, an honorary jury has recognised the best of contemporary photography from the last year, chosen from a record-breaking 230 103 entries.

The 2016 professional competition, judged by a specialist panel that includes BBC global news website picture editor Emma Lynch and photography critic and curator Mariko Takeuchi, celebrates nine series that capture key current affairs stories from around the globe.

Chaired by Time Out group picture editor Jael Marschner, the open competition shortlist celebrates the diverse work of photography enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds across ten categories including, architecture, enhanced, smile, split-second and travel.

Winning and shortlisted images from the 2016 awards will be showcased at the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition at Somerset House from 22 April – 8 May.
