Peter Blake’s biggest artwork to date available to win in competition

Date
19 April 2017

Earlier this year we wrote about Peter Blake’s mammoth piece, Our Fans, which covered the Mandarin Oriental Hotel while it had an £85 million renovation. As the refurbishments come to close in May, the hotel and its creative agency London Advertising have launched a global competition to win an original and enormous Peter Blake.

The competition’s aim is to find the best home for Peter’s artwork, giving it a second lease of life. However, Our Fans is 65 metres wide and 24 metres tall, so it’s not a piece to hang on your bedroom wall unfortunately. Therefore, London Advertising and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel are looking for an inspirational idea for where the artwork could be used or placed.

The competition is open to anyone, “all you have to do is submit your idea in no more than 100 words,” they explain. “Any profit from this ‘second use’ must be directed to a charity.” Suggestive ideas include: “Should the poster be hung in a public gallery? How might fragments be signed by the artist and auctioned in a relevant way for a charity? Is there an innovative re-use for the material?”

Entries need to be submitted using this entry form by 5pm 21 April and will be judged by a panel including Peter Blake himself.
