Artist Olafur Eliasson has designed Little Sun Charge, a high-performance solar phone charger and light. Created with engineer Frederik Ottsesen, the hand-held charger is part of the Little Sun solar art project Olafur and his team set up three years ago.

The first product Olafur and his team created was the Little Sun Lamp which brought light to over 670,000 people living without access to the electrical grid. The Little Sun Charge has similar ambitions and has it’s own Kickstarter to take it from prototype to production. Aiming to bring sustainable energy to all, the charger is said to be “a work of art that works in life, a great solar energy product and a social business in one.” Offering full smartphone charge from five hours of sunshine it uses a standard USB port and can also be used a solar light. Already the project has reached over 70% of it’s £50,000 target still with over a month to go.
