New Animal Collective app makes users paint with each other to release latest single

Date

The band Animal Collective has launched an app to release their new single Lying in the Grass where users paint with each other in realtime across the world. The app, Painting With takes its name from the band’s forthcoming album of the same title, and allows fans to share their art made with the app on Instagram and Twitter. Works are also displayed on the Animal Collective website.

The app, designed by New York agency Line Break, works in a similar way to the Paint By User project by Matthew Britton and Bertie Muller, in which users paint on one shared artwork.

Last month Animal Collective released the new album’s lead single FloriDada, with a video by Brooklyn-based collective PFFR.
