Sonya Dyakova on drool-worthy type and retro recipe books

Renowned graphic designer Sonya Dyakova, formerly of Phaidon and Frieze, now runs her own London studio Atelier Dyakova. Sonya took to the Nicer Tuesdays podium to explain the typography and retro references behind her recent drool-worthy food photography book, Feast for the Eyes.

Drawing from her wealth of experience, Sonya recently decided to move onwards to become independent – and rightfully so. “I loved working with imagery and typography at a faster pace,” she tells the audience before running through her sources of inspiration. “As a girl, I used to look through Grandma’s cookbooks during the Soviet Union…Food is so central to our lives and there are so many personal memories attached.”
