Join us for this month's Nicer Tuesdays on the theme of Childhood!
Ladies and gents, it’s time to push your electricity bills to one side and to stop furrowing that frustrated brow – this month’s Nicer Tuesdays is dedicated to the subject of Childhood!
Whether it’s the vintage children’s book illustrations which remain ingrained in your subconscious or the explorative and educational exhibitions at the Science Museum, we’re bringing together four diverse creatives whose work harnesses the creative potential of childishness and everything that comes with it.
Joining us will be Lawrence Zeegen, dean of LCC’s School of Design and author of a gorgeous new publication which explores the cultural and educational impact of the unforgettable Ladybird books. We’ll also have Kev F. Sutherland, the comics artist behind some of the iconic comic strips in The Beano, Bash Street Kids and Roger the Dodger which formed our earliest understanding of humour in illustration and had many of us reading under the covers by torchlight at a tender age.
As well as these two we’ll be joined by Toby Parkin, who in his role as lead curator of interactive galleries at the Science Museum is responsible for piecing together the awe-inspiring exhibitions which continue to delight adults and children alike, to talk about the curatorial challenges of catering for young brains, as well as Katie Johnston, co-founder of Play-o-logy, a new organisation born from Camberwell College with the goal of making difficult subjects fun.
As always the drinks will be on us, so come down and have your creative mind expanded! We look forward to seeing you.
