Photographer Nadav Kander’s prolific work has appeared everywhere from advertising billboards and magazine covers to the walls of fine art galleries around the world.

His presentation at Here 2016 illuminates his many inspirations and the questions he considers when creating his work, using a series of images that made him fall in love with his medium and continue to move him emotionally. “They really influenced me greatly, and they sit on my shoulder as I make this work, and they work in a way that they inform me: whether to move closer to them, or walk away from them they are always sitting there, they are always a reference point,” he explains.

He thus contextualises his work, further discussing where this takes him when trying to communicate his messages to his audience. He poses the question of what to put in and what to leave out of an image, citing a desire to convey and maintain intrigue: something he sees as central to his work.
