There are lots of things that are brilliant about Milton Melvin Croissant III – the first being obvious, in that he is actually called Milton Melvin Croissant III. The other things are to do with his rather amazing animation work, created primarily in open-source 3D modelling software and aiming “to build and explore worlds layered against our own,” he says. Based in Brooklyn, Milton’s work is deliciously peculiar, showcasing not just a huge amount of software skill but a bafflingly fertile imagination.
Among the highlights of his surreal Vimeo offerings is his music video for London-based musician Rubik’s song Duet, “The work uses Fantasia inspired imagery to traverse an allegorical landscape of vice and despair,” says Milton. The result is a dizzying narrative of happy endings, eye-stalks clutching sex toys, anthropomorphic violins and all kinds of other oddities. His Arcology Series is more sombre in colour palette but no less impressive, taking in monstrous instances of man taking on machines and other horrors.
