Can’t stop, won’t stop: New work from Max Siedentopf

Date
5 April 2017

Max Siedentopf is an unstoppable creative. He is so prolific that it’s just a quarter of the way through 2017 and he has already produced two brilliant new projects. We knew he was productive as an It’s Nice That Ones To Watch this year, but at this rate we won’t be able to keep up with him.

A project by Max is guaranteed to be two things. The first is that it will be sleek and sharp in photographic style, and the second is that it will have a chucklesome narrative. The sort of narrative that makes you ask how on earth he came up with the idea, let alone how he accomplished it. The result is a portfolio of projects that have designers scratching their heads and have even puzzled Daily Mail readers.

The first of Max’s projects for this year is Fifteen Fantastic Fountains which sees him create a fountain out of pretty much anything you have around the house. “Fountains are typically three metres high, made of stone, cost an excess of 25,000 and need a big beautiful garden to put them in,” Max tells It’s Nice That. “As I lack a big beautiful garden, I decided to create the Fifteen Fantastic Fountains, fountains which can feature in any household.” The designer’s creations feature coffee mugs, soup bowls, a urinal, “or of course, pickle jars”. We asked Max how on earth he created the splashes, but to keep the mystery he simply replied, “all fountains include a water pump and a splash of magic”.

Roadkill Trophies is Max’s second project with a little more of a morbid message. “In ditches and gutters all along country roads they can be spotted – dead animals, but not the sort anyone seems to care about.” However, Max the master of recognising forgotten objects, shines a light on them paying “tribute to these victims, innocent animals that tried to cross the street and in the act, got hit by a speeding car” he explains. “The series commemorates the animals on the very object that took their life.”

With a new issue of Ordinary just round the corner, we can’t wait to see what Max conjures up next.
