Illustrator Jordan Jackson’s finely-drawn and sprawling compositions

Date
7 March 2017

American illustrator Jordan Jackson uses crisp, fine lines to create intricate and sprawling works that detail symbols and icons. Using mainly pen on off-white papers, Jordan’s illustrations feel folk-like and otherworldly in their content but his style keeps his depictions of wiggling coral, ambiguous symbols and indistinct vessels fresh and interesting.

Rather than capturing scenes, Jordan compiles different objects, figures and emblems together, and his compositions become hand-drawn catalogues of artefacts. It’s when the illustrator peppers his drawings with the odd character or hidden face that adds even more intrigue to his work. Wide-eyed and innocent, his figures help towards making a fuller picture of the world Jordan has created through his intricate linework.
