Infringe documents Redhead Days, an annual festival celebrating the hair colour
If you visit the Dutch town of Breda during September, you’ll be met by a sea of gathering redheads.
In the first week of September is Redhead Days, a brilliant celebration of the hair colour founded in 2005 by the Dutch painter Bart Rouwenhorst. Its humble beginnings started when Bart placed an advert in a local newspaper looking for red-headed models to pose for a painting. Surprised by the response the artist decided to initiate a project much larger, gathering the 150 redheads who responded. In the 12 years since, its popularity has grown immensely with a worldwide following, “whatever the shade or style, everyone is welcome”.
Infringe a publication platform “dedicated to hair culture” went to this year’s festival, capturing the joy and ginger through the lenses of photographers Aris Akritidis and Panos Damaskinidis. “Red hair is a true rarity, occurring in less than 2% of the human population,” says the publication. “This makes Redhead Days all the more special — it’s the only event in the world where 100% of the attendants are redheads.”
In this mix of crowd shots, redhead friends or siblings, and up close shots of flowing copper shades, the result is a series of images that will undoubtedly make you envious.
