The meticulously layered and striped paintings of Guy Yanai

Date
18 January 2017

Upon looking at the work of Isreali artist Guy Yanai there is a structural element you immediately notice, straight lines. Guy’s paintings are meticulously layered rectangular blocks, even if there is a change in colour he continues the line, creating delicate details that shine when the painting is complete.

Born in Haifa, Israel, Guy currently lives and works in Tel Aviv after studying globally. The artist’s educational adventures include Parsons, New York, The New York Studio School, Pont Aven School of Art in France, and a bachelors in fine art from Hampshire College, Massachusetts. Since his studies Guy has exhibited in all corners of the globe, from Fox Hill Road at Rod Barton in Belgium, Ordinary Things a Haifa Museum of Art, Israel, to Accident Nothing at Aran Cravey Gallery, Los Angeles.

When looking at Guy’s paintings you can understand their international appeal. The subjects featured are globally recognisable, still life’s of plants, suburban architecture or boats, each observed and transformed in Guy’s painterly style. With content and colour palettes reminiscent of David Hockney or Henri Matisse, Guy displays his influences with a captivating and refreshing twist.

Throughout 2017 Guy will be exhibiting widely including shows at Galerie Derouillon, Paris, he’ll have a solo booth at Art Brussels, contributing a group show at Luciana Brito Galeria, Sao Paulo, with even more planned for the latter half of the year.
