David Galasse and Antonio Vicentini create internet art-heavy video for Adidas Superstar

Portuguese-Brazilian graphic designer David Galasse was asked by Adidas to create an experimental video for a new global campaign for the brand’s Superstar trainers. The result is a glitchy, trippy 50-second film that questions what it means to be a superstar in today’s world. Pulling references from all things internet and digital, the film is animated by Brazillian motion graphics artist Antonio Vicentini who created this funny history of skateboarding short earlier this year.

The video uses found imagery to create bizarre and garish things like a monkey smoking a rocket ship and multiple hands melting in Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. “The video discusses how technology and creativity have freed us, but how social media has distorted the very idea of fame, giving it a more superficial layer,” David explains on his site. Tying it all together are the glimmers of Adidas throughout, with its iconic Superstar trainer appearing in deconstructed forms and its signature trefoil emblem subtly repurposed.
