Chad Kloepfer’s crisp exhibition catalogues and award-winning art books

From catalogues for a Jeff Koons retrospective to a 1,092-page artist’s book, Chad Kloepfer has carved a niche for himself designing clean-cut art publications. Casting a glance over his work, it’s unsurprising the latter of those two – Paul Chan’s New New Testament – picked up an award for Most Beautiful Book at the Swiss Design Awards in 2014. The New York-based designer previously worked as senior designer at the Walker Art Center for seven years, and art director of Artforum magazine for four years.

Now, having proven his particular talent for sophisticated book design and printed matter, Chad works independently on a number of projects. Recently, those have included a MoMA catalogue for Yoko Ono’s fictitious 1971 exhibition, the aforementioned, “most beautiful” and bible-like monograph for artist Paul Chan, and Koons’ 2014 retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
