Casper Balslev shows ballerinas wielding AK-47s in his ad for the Royal Danish Theatre
Copenhagen-based agency Wichmann/Schmidt’s ad for the Royal Danish Theatre blends behind-the-scenes shots with scenes from its current productions to create an exciting mini-doc of the theatre. Directed by Casper Balslev, who’s worked with the theatre before, the ad is set to George Frederic Handel’s Sarabande giving it an upbeat energy. Casper weaves the many sounds of the theatre into the composition creating a unique soundtrack.
Shots of ballerinas wielding AK-47s and actors as alien characters allude to the theatre’s many productions. The more prosaic shots of costumes getting steamed and sets being painted manage to heighten the action, making these rarely-seen preparations part of the performance.
